On October 22nd, it was learned from the Provincial Department of Science and Technology that in 2024, the province’s investment in science and technology funds continued to increase. Both the investment in research and development (R&D) and the scale of local fiscal science and technology expenditure in the province maintained a relatively fast growth rate. The intensity of R&D investment steadily increased, having provided strong support for promoting the high-quality development of the province’s economy. Among them, Nanchang City has maintained the top position in the province with a research and development (R&D) expenditure scale of 15.814 billion yuan, with an R&D expenditure intensity of 2.03%. It demonstrates the provincial capital’s leading role in innovation through solid investment and injects strong impetus into the high-quality development of the entire province.

It is introduced that research and development (R&D) expenditure refers to the actual expenditure of the whole society on basic research, applied research and experimental development within the statistical year, including personnel labor fees, raw material fees, fixed asset purchase and construction fees, management fees and other expenses actually used for research and experimental development activities.

According to the communique, in 2024, the province invested a total of 66.628 billion yuan in research and development (R&D), an increase of 10.3% over the previous year. The intensity of research and development (R&D) expenditure (as a ratio to the provincial GDP) was 1.95%, an increase of 0.07% over the previous year. The per capita expenditure calculated based on the full-time workload of research and development (R&D) personnel was 427,000 yuan, an increase of 51,000 yuan compared with the previous year.
